Landers House is a unique experience and a sharing of the charms of the past with the renewal of romantic memories of the present. People come from all over the US and beyond, wanting to experience the ambience of history, uniqueness of the themed cottages, and wonder at the beauty of Starved Rock and Utica.
The Landers family, as I understand it, were among the original settlers of Utica and opened a country store back around the turn of the century. The home and barn out back were the original homestead, and Landers House and Cottages, under the creative genius of Dorelle Denman, expanded to include Bear Creek and a replica barn/cottage behind it. This affords us the opportunity to host up to 7 couples per night, all with the privacy they desire and the opulent gardens and back yard to enjoy alone or as a group. Many couples come in pairs or more to enjoy the history of the house as well as create memories with friends and family.
Each cottage has a unique theme, from the stars in the ceiling of LaNoche to the thatched ceiling of Serengeti. There is the Creel fishing outdoors theme as well as Caribou with our favorite mount. Inside the main house, the Safari room makes you feel like your in the depths of Africa. All 4 cottages include lofted beds, fireplaces, jacuzzi and private breakfast porches. Looking for a little smaller one room experience, we have two economical rooms in Bear Creek with unique decor as well. All units include brand new Queen beds, flat screen TVs, Kuerig coffee makers and so much more. Bobbie our innkeeper not only makes your stay enjoyable, but her special breakfasts will leave you waiting for the next breakfast.
We purchased Landers House in May this year, and it has been a labor of love bringing the house back to life with a complete exterior make over. Our love of Starved Rock and nature, of the old, and desire to preserve history, has brought us to the unique and wonderful Utica community. You have made us all feel so welcome to the community, we hope Landers House gives everyone who stays with us the same feeling of romance and nature, peaceful memories, and unique beauty.
